I'd #recommend this to anyone who's politically engaged right now. This video frames the economic motivations for Germany and Japan going to war instead of the ideological beliefs which we most often hear about. Basically, Germany and Japan were both concerned that they couldn't make enough food while also advancing their economies into industrial and post-industrial sectors, so they invaded other countries in the hopes of turning those countries into their agricultural base.

Basically, WWII happened because Germany and Japan weren't efficient enough at farming. Or more generally, countries decided to make the very expensive decision of going to war for resources because they were not able to sustainably manage their own resources. And current under-regulated capitalism encourages people to overexploit resources in an unsustainable way. You can see where this is going.
