Todoist
Software I use to ensure I'll never forget things I deem important enough to do. It's become my defacto calendar, and I hope someday to replace it with My todo app when the below list gets annoying enough and my app writing gets fast enough.
Frustrations and limitations
- Calendars
- ...are a paid feature ð bruh
- You can't add durations without a start time, so you can't project-plan in advance
- On the Today calendar view, the list view only shows things scheduled for today; you can't go searching for unscheduled projects or tasks to bring into your day plan, you have to go find them and schedule them for today first
- No today view (only week/month) for custom filters (which would have otherwise fixed the previous problem)
- Lacks features I would consider essential for ADHD (physical time, eating time, deep focus time). Basically, it doesn't have a scheduler (or schedule templates), which is what I would pay for. It also doesn't have a task timer (for tracking how long things actually took) which I consider essential for breaking enough and not getting hyperfixated on one task at the expense of others.
- Can only load a Google or Outlook calendar to show in the Todoist calendar. I use my Fastmail calendar (which has a public ICS link) to block my day structure (exercise, lunch, focus time) which would be nice to overlay on my actual task calendar for the day (which would have fixed the previous problem.)
- Completed tasks are deleted from the calendar, meaning there is no ability to look back at my day and see how it was spent.
- Completed tasks do not show up in general.
