How to deal with crushes
I'm feeling a strong sense of my crush invading my time for other things. Instead of spending my spare time on the ferry reading, listening to a podcast, etc, I'm spending it listening to music and indulging the fantasy of the crush. How can I accept these feelings in a way that lets me be free of them to focus on the other things that matter to me?
- imagining sharing my feelings to my crush aloud, with a response of compassionate rejection
- try projecting the euphoria of the crush onto other things I love about being alive
- when I notice myself wanting to check my messages for a response, to re-centre my focus on something else
What would I imagine saying to my crush?
Hey, can I voice something on my chest? It'll take a minute for me to articulate properly. I've really enjoyed getting to know you more over our chats, and I've got a bit of a crush on you at the moment. I'm cautious to share my crushes sometimes because I don't want you to feel like the main driver in these conversations has been romantic for me. It's not, it's just something nice that I feel on top of our friendship. For me, the feeling of getting to know someone on a deeper level sometimes makes me crush on my friends; or rather, it becomes the same feeling for me. I like to feel seen in my friendships life is short, and I felt safe to share it with you, so I hope that doesn't change how you feel too much about our dynamic. I just wanted to share it.
