Internal layman

The version of me that understands things like a layperson or a child. It yearns for intuitive real-life examples that allow me to get a handle on instances of the abstraction before I try to grab the abstraction itself.

I do not ever want to silence the questions of my internal layman, unless I'm in sufficiently abstract territory that concrete examples are more misleading than helpful (ie as they were in topological spaces during my undergrad).
